About the Wijikura Range
If you have had the opportunity to travel the vastness of the Australian outback you will have most probably seen the wind whip up into what Australians call Willy Willy's, that are similar to what could be called a mini Tornado. The people have their own name for this wind . Willy Willy's are part of Australia's natural landscape and feature in many of the dreamtime stories of the Aboriginal people."WIJIKURA" artists are Australian Aboriginal people of the Eastern parts of Australia. Eastern Australia is an area of extremes with its extensive rainforest, vast deserts and dramatic coastal landscapes.
Each artist has their own unique style. Their as handed down to them from generation to generation have been interpreted on the Wijikura range of collectables, canvas, and artifacts to showcase their ancestral culture as well as their artistic abilities. Today's Aboriginal art is a reflection of the artists somewhat urbanized structure, however, no matter what medium is used to showcase their art, the culture and unmistakable uniqueness of design is prominent in each piece whether it be a canvas, a boomerang, or a pottery vase.
It is widely thought that Aboriginal art is unique to the Central and Northern regions of Australia, however, ancient Aboriginal art has been found in many forms along the entire length and breadth of the Australian Continent. The art from the Eastern regions have many similar themes to that of the central and northern areas although the use of colour is significantly different where there is a coastal influence. The artists pick up the coastal flavours as well as traditional desert art because of the great diversity of land features within their tribal boundaries.
There are many Aboriginal language dialects spoken throughout the country even to this day, however there is a genuine common thread in their drawings, artwork, artifacts, and ceremonial rituals, all of which was a means of non-verbal communication to the nomadic Aboriginal tribes as they travelled throughout the country. artists are proud of their heritage and use this forum to carry on the dreamtime stories of their individual tribal groups and to showcase their talents as artistic story- tellers to the rest of the world.
